Thank you to the Ontario Arts Council for their support through their Literary Creation grant program for my novel project “Understory: A Young Person’s Field Guide to the Aberrations of the Algoma Wilds”.
This project has challenged me this last year. It is the first new manuscript I’ve started post pandemic, and one very much embedded in northern Ontario. I am probing themes and relationships that are deeply meaningful and personal, while exploring a new melange of genres, trying to balance verisimilitude and the fantastical in a way I haven’t done before. I am profoundly grateful to the OAC for their support for this project.
